What is the game:

  • Simply put it is rocket league where cars are replaced with gun-wielding people
  • The basic mechanic is shooting. 
    • Shooting the ball to score
    • Shooting enemies to push them away
    • Shooting team mates to push them forward
    • Shooting the ground to rocket jump.


Mechanics Inspiration:

  • Rocket league / Lucio ball style sports game
    • Inspiration for the basic game feel / rules
  • Overwatch
    • Inspiration for fast paced fps mechanics
  • Splatoon
    • Inspiration for easy aiming with gyro
  • TF2
    • Inspiration for rocket jump


What we have so far:

  • We have a simple stadium with multiple goals and a ball that the two players can shoot around
  • We also have controllers working as input and split-screen for the two players
  • Basic physics is also implemented

Art style:

  • For art-style we are going for a goofy / silly low poly look to embrace the chaotic vibe of the game
  • We have some basic models for the game and some concept art
  • Inspired but many low poly centered games


Music:

  • Inspiration from games like fall guys and unrailed
  • Up-beat music
  • Thinking of including dynamic audio
    • ramping up music intensity as time runs out or as ball gets close to the net (things like that)


Uniqueness:

  • Easy to pick up movement-wise (unlike rocket league’s difficult entry) while still keeping a high skill ceiling
  • Rocket league and Lucio ball are much more close range, the whole point of our game is that you can pull off cool plays from long distance. Makes the game more strategic in a way, but also rewards quick thinking, whereas if you were close range it comes down a lot more to just mechanics, which causes a higher learning curve. We have a lower skill floor but just as high a skill ceiling as those other games.
  • We are also thinking of having the force from the bullets apply to yourself and team mates. This means you can jump up shoot, shoot below and will be launched up. In the same way you can shoot your team mate to push them closer to where they want to be.
  • Maybe health system with ragdoll couple seconds when reach 0 health


Things we may add:

  • UI + title screen
  • ragdoll physics
  • particle effects one stuff (guns, goals, hits, etc)
  • Character selection (weapon classes / player look)
  • Weapon switch? For this we can mention it as a potential idea maybe.
  • Select loadout prior to the game (choose weapon (i.e. shotgun has shorter but wider range, sniper has much faster bullet speed and damage but single shot, etc.) and 2 abilities) Teams could then try to synergize their loadout/counter enemy loadout.
    • In addition to weapon type and abilities, could also have passives to choose from (i.e. more hp, faster movement speed, etc.)
